Global Communities, Fall 2023

From September to December of 2023, I worked for Global Communities as their Intern for Digital and Video. This global nonprofit based in D.C. takes on many projects to support communities in crisis while upholding their autonomy and dignity. As such, my time in the Communications Department saw a variety of mediums in the professional pipeline. I was able to showcase my skills in animation, video editing, captioning, audio, web design, and graphics building.

Syria (SLS) Program

The Supporting Livelihoods in Syria (SLS) Program benefitted communities by providing them with farming tools and resources to adapt to a changing climate. For this project, I created the assets in Adobe Illustrator and animated them in Adobe After Effects. My goal was to visualize the data in the script to appeal to wider audiences. I created cuts both for website and social media.

World at a Click

During my internship, I was the visual designer for a new series called “World at a Click,” which aimed to present bite-sized portions of larger Global Communities projects. I created this debut animation, featuring school lunches in Guatemala, from a short script provided by my supervisors.

Shorthand Stories

Occasionally, I would be asked to contribute to Shorthand Stories– a visual project based in web design and layout. I personally created graphics, set type and quotes, and formatted videos to enhance each story. The two I predominantly helped with were "A Community-Centered Approach to Malaria Elimination in Honduras” and “Twenty Years of Emergency Response Programming in Guatemala.”

Crisis to Resilience

In order to attract interest for each Crisis to Resilience (C2R) story, a brief reel would be assembled for web and social media. These are the respective videos I created for both Shorthand stories (as mentioned above). Each features motion graphic and video editing work.
